The Aspire Software Founding Partners tended bar at the 2018 NALP Leadership Conference in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
Headquarters: Fairfax, VA
Years In Business: 13
Beginning as the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) in 2005, NALP is the leading industry association and certification syndicate for more than 100,000 landscaping and grounds keeping professionals in the United States and Canada.
One of our two fearless leaders (the other being Founder and Managing Partner Mark Tipton), Kevin was a nationally recognized consultant for more than 35 years before beginning Aspire. This included 26 years in the landscape industry with Three Point Group (alongside partners Frank Ross and Jeff Harkness).
Aspire In Action – NALP Leadership Conference 2018
In what is fast becoming a tradition, The Aspire Software Company sponsored the late night cocktail reception at the NALP Leadership Conference in the Caribbean (this year in Dominican Republic), with the Managing Partners tending the bar. A good time was had by all, and Mark and I did a pretty good job of serving the crowd alongside the local guys.
NALP is a great organization – if you haven’t gotten involved, maybe you should consider it. There’s nothing like face to face contact with other contractors, distributors and manufacturers to keep you up to date and develop relationships within the industry (if for no other reason than they may turn into friendships – see #13 below).
The conference was good! It was fun to hear from the CEO panel about their individual paths to success. One CEO described his daily morning routine: he goes to the local Dunkin Donuts, gets a cup of coffee and sits in on a group of guys who are there every morning complaining about life and the world. He said that it is very motivating in that it reminds him to be grateful and NOT to be like them … ever. I think he referred to them as the “Breakfast Club of Broken Dreams.” It was a funny story as he told it with a simple message: life is what you make of it. You get to chose who you want to be and what you want to be upset about.
21 Suggestions to Success
I have a framed poster that hangs in my office. And for the last 40 years, I’ve looked at it almost every day. I’d like to share it with you below. I think leadership is a simple as your values. Those values either engage you – the leader – and by extension, those you lead … or they don’t. See you next year at the NALP Leadership Conference in Aruba!
